With over 15 million books sold, even if you haven't had the chance to read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, you're likely to have heard of the book at some point in your life. First published in 1989 and written by Stephen R. Covey, TIME magazine had listed the book as one "The 25 Most Influential Business Management Books."

Independence - The first 3 habits are based on self-mastery

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Understand that your decisions are the determining factor in your life and our behavior is a function of our decisions, not conditions. You have to take responsibility for your choices and we have the initiative and responsibility to make things happen.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind 

Understand what is really important to you and then work to achieve it instead of a single destination. You'll be able to control the direction of your life if you step back and take the time to reflect on what really matters to you. 

Habit 3: Put First Things First

While Habit 2 is the mental understanding, Habit 3 focuses on putting the mental creations into physical creations. If you are organized, you can pack more into your life and is essential for success. It's important to understand and be able to distinguish between important activities and urgent activities in addition to managing your time.

Interdependence - The following 3 habits are based on working with others

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Understand that genuine feelings for mutual beneficial solutions is a "win." Helping others is a "win-win" and knowing that a "win" for all is the ideal long-term resolution instead of just one person that had gotten his/her way.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

Understand that a very important part of the communication skill is also listening. "Most people listen with the intent to reply, not to understand." Once you use emphatic listening to be genuinely influenced by a person, your behavior compels them to reciprocate and be influenced by you.

Habit 6: Synergize

Value and respect differences in people, in addition to building on strengths and compensating for weakness through positive teamwork so that goals can be achieved where one person could not have done alone.

Continuous Improvements - The final habit is planning and continuous improvement on yourself.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

This habit focuses on self-care, self-renewal, self-respect, and self-improvement and are conveyed across the following dimensions: Physical, Spiritual, Mental, Social/Emotional.
